PRESENTS
MONETARY REFORM, ECONOMIC JUSTICE, AND
POLITICAL DEMOCRACY
Wednesday 7th May: 6.30pm
LONDON SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS, Room D 302, Clement's House,
Aldwych WC2 (nearest tube: Holborn)
James Robertson, author of 'Transforming
Economic Life: A Millennial Challenge' and 'Creating New Money. A monetary
reform for the information age' Who should create new money? Commercial banks now create almost all
national money, and the USA creates the main global currency ().
They profit hugely from doing so.
Michael Rowbotham, author of 'The Grip of
Death' and 'Goodbye America'. Currencies, debt and fair trade: economic justice suggests the
cancellation of international debt and a just system of currency
valuation would dramatically alter the conditions of trade in favour of
developing nations, restrain the power of global monopolies and promote
a more localised and stable international economy.
Prof. Mary Mellor, author of 'The Politics
of Money' Money-driven societies are unsustainable, socially, ecologically and
economically. From the perspective of ecofeminist political economy she
argues that social and ecological sustainability must rest on economic
democracy where money issue and access are seen as social questions and
therefore a political issue.
Michael Linton, founded 'Open Money'. and
has over 20 years of
experience in community currencies. His LETSystem design (1983) has been adopted (and modified) in an
estimated 3000 implementations. His focus is now the London open money
project.
